Anti Corrosion Coating

Rust Resistant
Anti-corrosion

Coating & Foaming has developed weatherproof and fool-proof rusting treatments for all types of surfaces. After studying the location and the problem area in detail, The professionals at C & F Inc customize treatments. With a follow-up system of maintenance, C & F Inc ensures that materials and surfaces stay totally rustfree.

General:

Solvent free epoxy coating systems are characterized by thick non-porous and highly resistant films as compared to solvent-coating  paints which give thin films with inherent porosity. Solvent-free epoxy coating enjoy increasingly wider applications, not only due to better performance but also due to lower cost per unit film thickness and freedom from fire or pollution hazard.

The standard solvent-free epoxy coating system used all over the world for heavy duty corrosion protection. Successful case histories of its application in chemical industries like fertilizers, paper, textiles, etc., in food industries like sugar, beverages, fats and confectioneries; in ships, pipes, water treatment plants, sewage drains and in a host of other fields, are available.

As in the case of any other coating, this system also involves careful surface preparation, application of a primer coat and top coats with appropriate precautions and proper curing. Thus, the use of this system consists of the following operations :

Surface Preparation:

Mild steel or any other metal surface required through sand-blasting to ensure complete removal of rust particles. The surface must also be free from traces of gre ase, oilor moisture. Degreasingis preferably carried out with non-inflammable solvents like trichloroethylene or carbon tetrachloride. Traces of solvent or moisture can be driven off by the use of a blast of hot air.

Concrete surfaces should be freed from laitance and dust by sand-blasting. In case sand-blasting is not possible, thorough abrading with a hard wire brush can be resorted to, though it is not efficient. If these methods is not feasible, chemical itching using 15% hydrochloric acid solution should be employed. The solution is brush applied over the surface liberally and left in contact for 15 minutes. This is then washed off with plenty of water followed by through drying with hot air.

The pre-requisites for good adhesion of the coating are cleanliness, roughness and dryness of the surface. Unless these are ensured by proper surface preparation, a successful performance is not possible.

Primer Coat:

One Brush coat of the Epoxy system is recommended as a primer, on the pretreated surface:

  • Resin
  • Hardener
Hardener facilitates thorough surface contact and tie-up with the subsequent coats. The primer should be applied to be just tack-free prior to the application of top coats. The primer must not be fully cured, since adhesion with a cured epoxy system is very difficult.

Top Coats :

Two top coats of the Epoxy system are normally adequate for a protective treatment :

The first top coat is applied over the primer coat and is left to reach a tack free state. At this stage, the final top coat is applied. The use of silica flour increases the abrasion resistance of the coating. Flow control agent ensures proper spreading of the system without any surface defects like cratering or fish-eyes. Butylated urea formaldehyde resin can be used as Flow Control Agent. Information on a specially Formulated system is available on request.

Curing :

Complete curing of the system takes place at room temperature (25 - 30 0C) in seven days. If room temperature is below 20 0C, during period should be extended by another seven days. Approximate dry firm thickness for primer and coats should be 350 microns.

Anti Corrosion Treatment

Peacock: 101, 102 & 103 (CECRI., Karaikudi Method)
101 – RO, 102 – MIO & 103 – Top coat (EP/PU)
Formulated as per CECRI., Karaikudi specifications for superior anti-corrosion treatment.
Application for concrete and metallic surfaces. Gives DFT of 250 micron in 3 coats.

NOTE : We also execute treatments based on zinc silicate primer, chloro rubber primer, acid/ alkali resistant brick and tile lining on turn key basis.
